My Journey into Healing
My journey into fascia focused therapy is a deeply personal one. When I was 15, I experienced a profound personal loss with the sudden passing of my mother. It was an extremely traumatizing experience, one that I didn't know how to process or heal from at the time. Shortly afterward, I started developing a persistent pain in my neck and upper back that started out of nowhere. There was no injury or tangible cause to explain it and the pain lasted with me for years . I tried several traditional treatment approaches and they seemed to help alleviate the pain temporarily but the pain always returned. Over time, it became a part of me, a dull nagging ache- something I had learned to live with. I had no idea at the time how emotional trauma could manifest in our physical body.
As Dr. Bessel van der Kolk said, “The Body Keeps The Score”.
Emotional experiences are not only stored as memories in the brain, but they are encoded in our nervous system. So our physical body remembers sensations that the conscious mind does not. Human emotions are designed to move like biological waves and they tend to become ‘stuck’ when we cannot express our emotions safely, we suppress them to cope, or even when an experience is simply too overwhelming to process. In other words, the nervous system may not receive the message that the threat has ended, so it continues to stay on guard. We may feel that we have moved on from the experience but if true healing did not occur, our body manifests it as pain or disease.
This shifted for me when I attended my first Myofascial Release (MFR) workshop in 2013. During the training, I experienced a release in my neck unlike anything I had felt before. It was accompanied by a powerful release of emotions I didn’t realize I was still carrying. It was the first time I understood, not just intellectually but physically, how deeply interconnected the body and emotions truly are. After the workshop, I returned with the commitment to my own healing journey. Through consistent self-treatment, I gently peeled back layers of long-held tension and unresolved grief that had been embedded within my fascial system. For the first time in years- I became truly pain free.
A Philosophy of Listening
Throughout my career, I have worked across a wide range of settings, including skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, acute and long-term acute care hospitals, school-based environments, and outpatient clinics. This diverse background has shaped my understanding of movement, pain, and healing across the lifespan and in both complex medical and everyday conditions.
I have continued applying these insights in my work with patients- including my own family and have seen remarkable results. The work never ceases to amaze me!
Experiencing firsthand how addressing both physical and emotional aspects of pain can transform movement and comfort has reinforced my commitment to a holistic, fascia-focused approach to healing. My approach focuses on addressing the root cause of discomfort by releasing fascial restrictions and each session is individualized, gentle, and guided by how your body responds supporting long-term relief, improved movement, and overall function.
Your body's natural state is ease. My role is simply to help you find the way back through professional care and compassionate listening.
I am a clinician who has lived the mind-body connection, not just studied it.
